THE secret to Sunday School growth

I subscribe to several Sunday School related blogs. I received this one recently from Daryl Wilson of the Kentucky Baptist Convention. I asked him for permission for forward it own to you. It is great. If you would like to subscribe to Daryl's blog, go to http://www1.kybaptist.org/revolutionary   The Secret of Sunday School Growth: Steve Grose shared his testimony about being a twenty-three year old church planter in an article entitled The Secret of Church Growth: MULTIPLY UNITS . He attended a three-week church growth seminar in which he heard from men like Chuck Swindoll, John Macarthur Jr, Gene Getz, Bill Yeager, and others. One of the men was Bill Taylor who at that time was the Minister of Education at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas (later served as Director of Sunday School for LifeWay Christian Resources). In the seminar, Bill Taylor said: “Your body grows each daily by multiplying uni

50,000 in doubling groups in one church

One of the most common questions I am asked is this: I know the idea of doubling will work. I just can't get my people to catch the vision? How do I get them to get it? How do I get the vision to stick? If you can relate to this question, I have some good news for you. Andy Stanley has just released a new book called Making the Vision Stick. It is great. The good news/ bad news about this book is you can read it in an hour. If anyone knows Andy, tell him: we want more! We want more! More good news: Andy's vision is about doubling groups. Here is the long version of Northpoint's Vision: "We envision fifty thousand people participating in weekly small groups that are committed to multiplying." They go on to say they want to get this done by 2010. (Page 23; Making the Vision Stick ) By the way, here is one for the on-campus groups vs. home groups debate: when home group churches speak of numbers, they are nearly always

Then will I teach transgressors your way

How powerful one word can be. I was writing a lesson recently on Psalm 51. My attention was drawn to one word at the beginning of verse 13: Then. The question it raised in my mind was, "When?" When is "then"? It is obvious from the context that David did not consider it appropriate to teach transgressors Gods ways until then–until something else happened. He could not teach transgressors God’s ways now; he could only do it then. When is "then"? Verse 12: "Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me." When is "then"? When the joy of his salvation is restored. When he found the grace to be obedient to the command of God to rejoice in the Lord always. David recognized that it would be premature and ineffective to teach transgressors God’s ways if he had not found the grace to find joy in God. Only people who are happy in God effectively witness for
